Scars anywhere on the body can be unsightly, and can interfere with some function in the area.  Plastic surgeons look at both functional and cosmetic aspects of scars when trying to improve them.

There may be colour changes, altered texture, tightness, tethering of movement, depression, thickening, puckering or important features pulled out of shape.

Treatment of scars may involve external applications, injections, surgical revision, contour shaving, or Laser treatment for resurfacing, contouring or colour changes.
