Prominent ears are one of the most common congenital anomalies for which people seek corrective surgery. The severity of the problem varies widely, and there may be other ear deformities associated with prominent ears. What is involved Most cases of prominent ears can be corrected either under local anaesthetic as an outpatient treatment, or with an general anaesthetic as a day surgery procedure. It will typically be necessary to wear a head bandage for about 5-7 days after the surgery. Once this is removed, a beanie or broad head band is usually worn at night to help protect the ears from accidental distortion during sleep.
